Pebble integrates Amazon Alexa into the Core

Remember the Pebble Core? The tiny little device that Pebble is launching in their latest Kickstarter just got a whole lot more interesting as Pebble announced late last week that they will be integrating Amazon Alexa into the device.

By integrating Amazon Alexa to the Pebble Core, the Pebble Core will now have the honour of being the first ‘fully-independant, 3G-connected wearable device’ to receive Amazon voice functionality. With Amazon Alexa available on the Pebble Core, the Core will now feature voice-related features such as the ability to play music from Amazon Prime Music and iHeartRadio, read news headlines from sites such as USA Today, review your Pebble Health Summary, and even tell jokes.

Of course, seeing as the Pebble Core is stated to be an ‘infinitely hackable device’, Amazon Alexa will be freely available to those who wish to develop for the Core, meaning that this voice-activated feature will probably be even more versatile after launch.

“The integration of Amazon Alexa into Pebble Core is exciting to see. By making Alexa Voice Services available for free to device makers and developers, we knew there would be no limit to the innovative uses,” says Steve Rabuchin, Vice President of Amazon Alexa.

As of the time of writing, Pebble’s latest Kickstarter has received over USD 10 million in funding with 24 days to go before the crowdfunding period ends.
