OtterBox made an antimicrobial screen protector to keep germs away from your iPhone

Screen protectors are great for preventing scratches and drops, but we can’t say the same for germs — until now. OtterBox announced its first antimicrobial iPhone screen protector that has been registered with the EPA.

With the approved antimicrobial technology, the screen protector is reported to suppress “the growth of several common stains and odor-causing bacteria to protect the surface of the screen protector,” said OtterBox. Basically, it means that there are fewer chances of your phone being contaminated with germs when you take it to places that aren’t completely sanitary like public restrooms.

In addition to its antimicrobial properties, Amplify Glass also has 5x greater scratch resistance as compared to standard soda-lime glass. OtterBox also said that the screen protector is easy to install, so perhaps the clumsier folks will finally have a chance to put on the Amplify Glass on their phones with fewer issues.

OtterBox hasn’t revealed the pricing of the screen protector yet, but it is expected to arrive soon — hopefully within this year.
