Oppo to unveil a 5x smartphone photography technology in MWC 2017

Oppo’s focus in making great smartphone cameras is a commendable move, the recent R9s is a great example of how the company can make smartphone photography great with its main 16-megapixel f/1.7 camera. As Mobile World Congress is about to begin, the company has sent a media alert teasing a new 5x smartphone photography technology, which we can easily assume to be a smartphone with zoom capability.

As of now, smartphone cameras with zoom capabilities include ASUS’s Zenfone 3 Zoom, the iPhone 7 Plus and the Huawei Mate 9, and it totally makes sense on why Oppo would want to venture into this department, should they want to remain competitive with the other big guys.

Could this be another dual camera smartphone? Or would it be similar to Nokia’s PureView technology where it uses its high resolution camera to achieve a lossless zoom? This is definitely one of the most exciting announcements from the company after the N3 smartphone with a electronic swivel camera, let’s hope that the company really means business in its MWC 2017 announcement, and I would love to see how Oppo plays against players like Huawei, as both companies are heavily invested in making great smartphone technology.
