OPPO A5s Debuts With 6.2″ Waterdrop Screen and MediaTek Helio P35

Popular Chinese smartphone maker OPPO has quietly introduced a new addition to its budget-friendly A-series line of smartphones. The new OPPO A5s is a slightly upgraded version of the OPPO A5 launched last year. In some markets, the smartphone will be sold as OPPO AX5s.

The OPPO A5s sports a 6.2-inch IPS LCD display panel with 720 x 1520 HD+ resolution and a waterdrop-style notch at the top. It runs on an octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, which is built on a 12nm FinFET process by TSMC. The OPPO A5, in comparison, runs on a Snapdragon 450 chipset. In terms of memory, the phone includes 3GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

Apart from the waterdrop screen and the more impressive Helio P35 chipset, the new OPPO A5s is largely identical to the A5. It comes with the same 13MP + 2MP dual-lens camera system at the rear and an 8MP snapper on the front for selfies as well as video calls. The smartphone’s internals are fueled by a large 4230mAh capacity battery.

When it comes to software, OPPO A5s runs on Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.2 out of the box. The smartphone comes in two new color options – Black and Red. Pricing and availability details have not been confirmed yet.
