OnePlus launches Open Beta for Android Oreo on the OnePlus 5

Just recently, OnePlus caught OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users by surprise, rolling out Android Oreo software for both of the said phones before the newer OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T handsets. OnePlus did not have the best history when it comes to software updates, with older phone such as the OnePlus 2 left in the dust without even Nougat software. The company has been making attempts to improve its software development support and timeliness, with the Open Beta for Android Oreo now open for OnePlus 5 users.

OnePlus has rolled out the first Open Beta build based on Android 8.0 Oreo for the OnePlus 5. The related zip files are available via OnePlus Forums at the source link below. The new features that come with the build include Oreo based features such as Picture-in-Picture, a newly designed Quick Settings, auto fill and smart text selection. It will also come with Parallel Apps, which was introduced together with the OnePlus 5T.

OnePlus did highlight the fact that this is a beta build, which means that you will still likely run into a ton of bugs in the software. Do also bear in mind that once you hop over to beta builds, the updates you will be getting are of beta software as well, meaning you won’t be able to receive official stable updates unless you wipe your data and flash the official stable build. Are you excited for Android Oreo?
