OnePlus confirms OnePlus 5 summer launch

OnePlus has finally teased the launch of its upcoming flagship for 2017. After countless rumors, leaks and possible subtle teasers, the Chinese manufacturer has finally spoken about the OnePlus 5 on its Weibo account. Well, not exactly but OnePlus has posted up a teaser image with the words “Hello 5” written on it. The image was posted together with the caption “Hey Summer! Give me five!”.

The teaser image has certainly confirmed the OnePlus 5 launch this summer, which begins on the final week of June for as long as three months. Rumors have circulated indicating that the OnePlus flagship will be unveiled as early as late June, July or August. OnePlus has also confirmed the summer launch of the OnePlus 5 to fellow tech news outlet The Verge.

OnePlus has been launching devices of near flagship standard at significantly lower prices than major manufacturers since 2014. The OnePlus 3 and 3T are clear signs of maturity since the OnePlus One. The company is skipping the OnePlus 4 name since the number 4 is deemed to be unlucky in Chinese culture. Nevertheless, the OnePlus 5 has many goodies in store that has been rumored so far – a 5.5-inch QHD display, a Snapdragon 835 processor with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, a dual 16MP camera configuration and a larger than usual 3,600mAh battery.

One aspect that has been in question is the pricing for the OnePlus 5. Price tags of previous OnePlus devices have been increased over every product refresh. With companies such as Xiaomi still managing to keep its devices’ price points in the budget zone, OnePlus definitely has to make the OnePlus 5 worth every penny spent. What do you think?
