Nvidia infringes on Samsung patents, may be facing sales ban

About a year ago, Nvidia sued both Samsung and Qualcomm because both companies have allegedly infringed on seven of Nvidia’s patents. Now though, the tables have turned against the graphics card maker as not only has Samsung not infringed on any of Nvidia’s patents, the U.S. Trade judge in charge of the case has found out that Nvidia did infringe on three of Samsung’s patents.

Findings in the case revealed are currently subjected to review by the U.S. International Trade Commission based in Washington. Should this reveal work against Nvidia’s favour, one of the consequences that Nvidia may face include a sales ban, preventing all Nvidia products to be sold in the U.S. market.

Understandably, Nvidia is “disappointed” with the recent development, saying that the Samsung patents in question date back to the 1990s, covering older technology that is no longer in use in modern chip designs.

Samsung does not believe so as they believe the patents are the foundation of modern day chip design. Whatever the case, the ball is now in Samsung’s court and Nvidia may be facing severe consequences if they have been found guilty of infringing Samsung’s patents.
