Hands-on images of the Nokia 9 tells us a lot

Nokia got the ball rolling again when it launched the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. HMD, the company responsible for the new line of Nokia handsets, has also unveiled a new version of the legacy Nokia 3310 with a twist, tapping into the nostalgic hearts of consumers.

HMD has promised to roll out a couple more handsets in 2017, and the Nokia 8 (or now known as 9) happens to be the most anticipated smartphone from Nokia that has yet to be released. The folks at Frandroid managed to get their hands on what seems to be a prototype of the Nokia 9, and the results are promising so far.

Most of the phone is covered by an enclosure, which is probably an attempt to conceal the body from being leaked out to be public. But there’s no stopping Frandroid from showing us what the Nokia 9 packs. First off, it is obvious enough that the phone has a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

As rumored before, the Nokia 9 features a dual camera configuration of two 13MP sensors, and according to the images, it looks to be in a vertical layout. The camera software also tells us that one of the sensors is a monochrome sensor, hence it is likely that the camera setup will work like the ones on the iPhone 7 Plus and the Huawei P10.

On the front below the display sits a fingerprint sensor flanked by two backlit capacitive buttons. We’re fortunate enough to get a screenshot of a CPU-Z result for the Nokia 9. The phone sports the flagship Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Codenamed “Heart”, the phone ran on Android Nougat 7.1.1 at the time of testing.

Another image suggests that the Nokia 9 will come bundled with a Quick Charge 3.0 adapter and a pair of headphones. Frandroid managed to sneak in a couple of camera samples of the phone for us to be the judge.

Everything seems promising so far, and we definitely expect Nokia/HMD to nail it since the Nokia 9 is rumored to feature a very premium price tag. What do you think?
