Nintendo debuts on the Apple App Store with Super Mario Run

Out of all the things that has been predicted to be present at the Apple event, no one was expecting Nintendo to be present at the event. So it was a surprised that Shigeru Miyamoto was at Apple’s San Francisco event, signaling the fact that Nintendo will finally be making a move towards Apple’s App Store. With that said, Miyamoto has announced that Mario will be coming to the Apple App Store thanks to Super Mario Run.

In terms of gameplay, Super Mario Run is similar to endless runner games such as Temple Run. In the game, Mario will be running towards the end of the level. Your job is to help guide Mario to the end of the level safely. Tapping the screen on your iDevice will cause Mario to jump, allowing you to jump over gaps, jump on top of enemies and reach power up blocks.

Alongside the base game, Super Mario Run will also feature a multiplayer mode via Toad Rally. This game mode will see you compete against other players in a race to collect as many coins as possible. For every daring move you pull of, you’ll receive a Toad character. Once the time is up, the coins for both players will be tallied, and the winner will be the one with the most coins. Additionally, Toads that are collected during this mode will be placed in your own personal Mushroom Kingdom.

Nintendo’s presence on the App Store won’t be limited to just Super Mario Run, as Miyamoto also announced that a set of Mario stickers will be made available for Apple’s messaging service. Super Mario Run will be made available for purchase on the App Store sometime during the Holiday Season.
