Nexus 6 users reportedly getting OTA downgrades from Android 7.1.1 to 7.0

The Nexus 6 was lucky not to be left out from Google’s list of devices getting the Nougat treatment. Having launched more than 2 years ago towards the end of 2014, the Nexus 6 had Android version 7.1.1 rolled out to its devices earlier this year. Considering the fact that it is almost prehistoric in the fast paced age of technology, the Android 7.1.1 update might turn out to be the last ever for the 2014 Google flagship.

Some Nexus 6 users have gotten another OTA update on top of Android 7.1.1, not to a newer version of Android Nougat, but rather a downgrade reverting back to 7.0. This rather bizarre OTA update has been reported by numerous Nexus 6 users on Reddit. Since there isn’t any official announcement by Google regarding the “downgrade”, it’s safe to assume that this OTA is a blunder by the company.

There hasn’t been word from Google since this has happened, hence the Reddit Nexus 6 users have been advising each other to refrain from installing the update. It is safer not to anyway. Let’s hope Google fixes it like it always does. Let us know whether you’re getting this strange OTA update as well if you happen to be a faithful Nexus 6 user.
