Netflix itself knows that many people around the world utilise the service on the mobile device, and as such, they’re looking to make the experience even better. To do so, Netflix is looking at the possibility of preparing versions of its original movies and TV shows that are optimized for mobile devices.
Speaking to a group of journalists in San Francisco, Netflix’s Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt has mentioned that the company is exploring the possibility of streaming mobile-specific cuts of Netflix’s original content. In essence, Netflix would use the master copy of the content to create a seperate version with scenes or shots that are more easily visible or immersive on a mobile phone. “It’s not inconceivable that you could take a master and make a different cut for mobile. It’s something we will explore over the next few years,” says Hunt.
While Hunt’s statement could potentially mean that Netflix is serious about making mobile-optimized versions of its content, you shouldn’t expect said content to arrive anytime soon.
