Nearly 2 million Pixel phones have been sold

Google launched its first ever Pixel series of smartphones towards the end of 2016, at the same time retiring the “Nexus” branding that it stuck with for its flagships of the past years. The company teamed up with HTC on the Pixel handsets, and according to a research, the sales of Pixel smartphones have nearly hit the 2 million mark.

A report by BayStreet Researchers states that a total of 1.8 million Pixels have been sold since their unveiling 8 months ago. This report was made based on the download number of the Pixel Launcher on the Play Store. The research firm has also reported 475,000 units of Pixel phones sold this quarter.

The near 2 million figure achieved by Google marks a step forward for the Silicon Valley giant. With rumors going around, Google is expected to launch the Pixel 2 later this year around the same time as when it typically launches its handsets. The Pixel 2 series is tipped to sport a Snapdragon 835 chipset underneath the hood. The larger Pixel2 XL will be made by LG and both phones will be powered by Android O.
