Motorola will not be releasing a new smartwatch anytime soon

A new Moto 360 smartwatch will not be available anytime soon as Motorola and parent company Lenovo have stated that both parties are not working on a new smartwatch that would coincide with the launch of Android Wear 2 next year.

Speaking to The Verge, head of global product development at Moto Shakil Barkat has said that the company doesn’t “see enough pull in the market to put [a new smartwatch] out at this time”. “Wearables do not have broad enough appeal to us to continue to build on it year after year,” says Barkat.

While there won’t be any new Moto 360 watches for now, Barkat did say that Motorola won’t be leaving the wearables market completely. “We believe the wrist still has value and there will be a point where they provide value to consumers more than they do today,” adds Barkat.

If you’re looking to get a Moto 360 smartwatch, your best course of option for now is to get the 2015 model of the smartwatch. The 2015 Moto 360 will be receiving the Android Wear 2 update when it releases next year.
