The Motorola RAZR 2019 has finally been unveiled and it’s of course the reboot to the original flip phone we got in the early 2000s. What’s different this time, is instead of a physical keypad, the whole of the inside of the phone is the display.

It’s a 6.2-inch Flex View pOLED display that pushes are resolution of 2142 x 876 – so not quite 1080p. Meanwhile, on the cover of the phone is also a secondary display that measures at 2.7-inches. The gOLED panel pushes a resolution of 600x800p. The secondary panel is dubbed the Quick View display and it serves to show you notifications as well as the time.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 710 chipset with 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage – so on paper you’ve got your regular mid-range affair. But despite that, the phone costs a whopping $1,499 (RM6,234); sure, it’s still cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X but it still burns a hole in your pocket.

Motorola claims that the design of the phone, despite being a foldable, has zero gaps on its hinge – and based on images, there doesn’t seem to be a hinge bump as well – a problem Samsung faced with the Galaxy Fold.

The RAZR has a sizeable chin that houses a single capacitive button that acts as the home button as well as the finger print reader. Over on the cover of the phone, just below the Quick View display, is the phone’s single 16MP main camera. For selfies, you’ll hey a 5MP shooter with screen flash.

Scarily, the phone only has a 2,510mAh battery that charges via USB C. it does support TurboPower fast charging of up to 15W however. The phone ships with Android 9 and supports eSIM, NFC and Bluetooth 5.0.

So there you have it, the Motorola RAZR 2019 in the flesh – although it does look like a mediocre device on paper. It will be launched next year, however there is no word on whether it’s coming to Malaysia.
