If you haven’t known, the 2016 refresh of the Moto X is rumored to carry a different name – Moto Z. Oddly enough, Motorola’s move is the other way round the alphabet game from the likes of Sony, who has announced that their Xperia Z line has ended, replaced by the Xperia X series. Nevertheless, the Moto Z name looks to be official, as Motorola has filed a trademark on the name.
Motorola, who is under Lenovo, had the trademark filed a week ago on May 17. This certainly supports earlier rumors claiming a Moto Z Play and a Moto Z Style. Yes, it sounds odd already, so get used to it. The Moto Z Play is tipped to sport a 5.5-inch Full HD display, 2 or 3GB of RAM with 16 or 32GB of internal storage respectively. Also, a rumored 16MP primary camera plus a big 3,500mAh battery. The Moto Z Style on the other hand, steps things up with a QHD display of the same size, either 3 or 4GB of RAM, supporting a Snapdragon 820 processor, plus 32GB of storage. The rest of the specs seem to pale in comparison to the Moto Z Play – a 13MP rear camera and a smaller 2,600mAh battery. It would definitely make more sense if those two specs were the other way round. But do note that the Moto Z Style’s camera will be equipped with OIS and Laser AutoFocus, based on rumors.
Both phones are said to feature modular designs like the LG G5. The modular parts for the phones are tipped to be known as MotoMods. The Moto Z series is expected to be revealed at Lenovo’s Tech World conference on the 9th of June. Till then, stay tuned!
