Last year, Lenovo laid off a significant amount of employees from Motorola. This year, Lenovo is doing it again as Droid-Life has reported that Motorola has been hit with yet another round of layoffs.
While Lenovo has officially announced that the layoffs are “part of the ongoing strategic integration between Lenovo and its Motorola smartphone business,” the company did not disclose the amount of employees that has been laid off. However, if Droid-Life’s report is true, an estimated 700+ employees out of the remaining 1,200 staff may be out of a job during this round of layoffs.
A now-former employee of Motorola has taken to Facebook, mentioning that Lenovo intends to move more of its operation to China in what seems to be an attempt to cut costs. Said employee also mentioned that Lenovo is rumoured to be shutting down Motorola’s Chicago headquarters, although Lenovo has since said that the Chicago headquarters will still be in operation.
