Motorola foldable phone patent surfaces, comes with wireless charging

Everyone wants to get into the foldable smartphone hype and Motorola is no different. In a recent patent filing, we see that the company has the plans and blueprints sorted out to create their own rendition of a foldable smartphone.

The patent that was filed back in September 2016 has been finally approved in March 2018, and it shows some very detailed illustration of their vision on foldable devices. the phone will come with a flap which flipped over, will reveal the screen and that screen can be further folded out to convert the phone into a tablet. There seems to be a hinge that connects the screens together but on the front, the screen blends seamlessly together, an approach that ZTE could have taken with their Axon M phone. The unique part about this patent is that the cover does not only protect the phone, but it can also act as a wireless charger.

Being as it is a prototype, there is a change we might not see this product in the market, but it seems that more and more companies are showing off their ideas for a foldable smartphone, shows that the idea is there and it seems solid. We just need to wait for one of the companies to take the step to actually produce these devices.
