Microsoft releases an AI-based iOS app to teach you Chinese

AI is becoming a big thing, there are people that are against the advancement of AI and those that are supportive of its growth. One such company is Microsoft to which they have released a new free AI-powered iOS app that will help you learn Chinese called bluntly, Microsoft Learn Chinese.

The main objective of the app is to provide a way for users to practice the language when no one is around for you to practice with. To which most of us in Malaysia who are multi-lingual know that years away from the country will make your Bahasa Malaysia language rusty and some to the point of totally losing touch. The app uses various AI tools to figure out what you are saying and even evaluate your pronunciation. The AI received its training data from Chinese speakers and Microsoft’s text-to-speech technology, the app will highlight words that you need to work on and even provide sample audio for you to hear the pronunciation of the word.

For now, they have no plans to expand the app to other languages but seeing as its an AI, it would just be a matter of giving it training data for it to process and learn in order to teach that language to us.
