Microsoft patents for a foldable smartphone discovered online

Remember that rumour that Microsoft is working on something called a Surface Phone. We may now have a better idea of what to device could potentially be as MSPowerUser has discovered a patent that shows a device that can be folded or unfolded to become either a smartphone or a tablet.

Judging from the images of the patent, it appears that the device will come with a flexible hinge that will allow the device to be spread open, folded in half, or even set up like a tent. Another interesting thing to note about the patent is that the inventor is listed as Kabir Siddiqui, the person who’s responsible for patenting the Surface Kickstand and the Surface Camera angle.

Before you get too excited, do note that a patent does not mean that a device based on it is being created at the moment. Until Microsoft personally announces the Surface Phone, the images found here are only good for speculation purposes.
