Microsoft modifies 'Xbox Play Anywhere' initiative; will only confirm support for games shown at E3 this year

During E3, Microsoft announced a featured titled Play Anywhere. This feature was supposed to allow Xbox One games to be compatible with Windows PC. Indeed, a blogpost showed earlier that Microsoft states that “every new title published from Microsoft Studios will support Xbox Play Anywhere.” Unfortunately, this may not be the case any longer as Microsoft has since modified the blogpost.

In the modified blogpost, the Play Anywhere feature been changed from “every new title published from Microsoft Studios” to “every new title published from Microsoft Studios that we showed onstage at E3 this year,” hinting that there may be games from Microsoft Studios that would remain Xbox One-exclusive. Head of Microsoft’s Xbox Division, Phil Spencer, has since clarified that the change in wording is simply to give leeway in case there’s a “unique game [that’s] not right for all devices.”

No further details were given as to what the criteria is for this “unique game” is, but if we had to guess, we’re just going to say that Halo 6 will continue to be an Xbox exclusive.
