Microsoft criticises Apple for blocking xCloud gaming service in App Store

Apple has been criticized by Microsoft recently for its App Store policies that deny cloud gaming services like Microsoft xCloud from being included on its platform.

It’s not just Microsoft xCloud; Google Stadia is also not allowed on the platform. Apple told Business Insider that these cloud services violate the App Store guidelines as the company can’t individually review each app.

Our customers enjoy great apps and games from millions of developers, and gaming services can absolutely launch on the App Store as long as they follow the same set of guidelines applicable to all developers, including submitting games individually for review, and appearing in charts and search.”

Microsoft xCloud: An Android exclusive for now

Microsoft has also ended the testing period for Project xCloud for iOS and announced that it’ll be an Android exclusive until further notice. According to The Verge, Microsoft has plans to make its xCloud and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription available on iOS devices — the only question left is how the company plans to implement that.
