Microsoft acquires interactive livestreaming service Beam

Interactive livestreaming service Beam may be sneaking its way into the Xbox One soon as Microsoft has reportedly acquired them recently.

According to a report by TechCrunch, Microsoft’s ownership of Beam would see the interactive game streaming service team being integrated into Microsoft’s own Xbox team. With Beam now a part of the Xbox team, Microsoft has stated that the Xbox team will “remain committed to its mission of importing users and streamers across platforms.”

As for Beam itself, CEO and founder Matt Salsamendi has stated that the Xbox’s community focus is specifically what made them a good fit for the company. “I’m really excited about Xbox’s focus on community,” says Salsamendi. “Beam is fundamentally built on a connected group of passionate individuals that love gaming, and Xbox is super in tune with that.”

For those who have not heard of the service before, Beam allows for real-time communication between streamers and viewers. The system allows viewers do actively interact with the streamer itself through an interface that allows them to choose weapons, select game modes, and many other options.
