Meizu Pro 7 to be unveiled next month, featuring Edge display

Meizu looks to refresh its Pro lineup next month, only months after its launch of the Meizu Pro 6. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has published a poster which indicates the launch date of the Meizu Pro 7 on the 13th of September, about three weeks from now. The poster also shows the tagline “Pro than Pro”, in typical quirky Chinese fashion, but with no sight of the phone itself, not even a slight peek or tease.

Not only that, an Antutu benchmark of the upcoming Meizu flagship has surfaced online. The Meizu Pro 7 is said to have went for a swim through the well known benchmarking app. The specs shown on Antutu indicates a QHD resolution display, which is said to use Samsung’s dual edge display, a Samsung Exynos 8890 chip underneath the hood with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, likely expandable via micro SD. The Pro 7’s rear and front cameras are at 12MP and 5MP respectively.

The dual-edge display of the Meizu Pro 7 has been widely rumored and speculated for a while now, and it won’t be much of a surprise with a Chinese manufacturer using Samsung’s components and displays for its handsets. The Meizu Pro 7 however, won’t be the first non-Samsung smartphone to adopt Samsung’s dual edge display technology. In fact, it will be the second known smartphone to boast Samsung’s curved display, after the 6GB RAM spec-ed Vivo XPlay5, which was launched earlier this year.

Featuring Samsung’s displays on its own handset can turn out to be a smart move for the likes of Meizu. For now, we shall wait out those three weeks to come. What do you think about the Meizu Pro 7 and its rumored specs so far?
