MediaTek M80 5G modem announced: Offers up to 7.67 Gbps downlink speeds

MediaTek just announced their new M80 5G modem that supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz connectivity, and offer ultra-fast speeds in both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) architectures.

High-speed connectivity

The chip allows for peak downlink rates of 7.67 Gbps and uplink rates of 3.76Gbps. The M80 also supports a full range of radio technologies such as 3GPP Release 16 standard, 5G NR (FR1), Dynamic Spectrum sharing and more.

MediaTek’s power-saving tech

As the chip will be used in smartphones, it also packs MediaTek’s list of power-saving technologies such as UltraSave Network Environment Detection and UltraSave OTA Content Awareness tech – both of which dynamically adjusts power configurations and operating frequencies based on the network environment.

There’s no official word on when the company will roll-put the M80 chip to manufacturers, but we should be seeing it arrive by the end of this year, or early next year.
