MediaTek has announced the Helio G70 chipset for budget-friendly gaming smartphones and we’re excited. It’s one step down from the more mid-ranged Helio G90 chip with 2x Cortex A75 @ 2.0GHz cores and 6x Cortex A55 @1.7GHz – the Helio G90 has six higher-clocked Cortex A55 cores instead. For graphics, the Helio G70 uses an ARM Mali G52 chip that’s paired with up to 8GB LPDDR4 RAM.
When translating to gaming performance, MediaTek employs the HyperEngine feature that does a few things – monitor an predict Wi-Fi or LTE concurrency triggers to reduce lag; and manage resources as well as the CPU and GPU memory for better game optimization.
The chipset supports eMMC 5.1 storage, up to 48MP photography with 1080p video recording at 60fps. For connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0.
We can expect to see the Helio G70 used in upcoming budget phones this year, especially from the likes of vivo and OPPO.
