The OPPO INNO Day 2021 just closed, with the reveal of the – their first foldable smartphone. During the event, they also announced a retractable phone camera and the , but one reveal that went a little under the radar was the MariSilicon X, which promises to be one of the best imaging chips available.
The MariSilicon X chip uses a state-of-the-art neural processing unit (NPU), image signal processing (ISP), and multi-tier memory components built on 6mm process technology to give users the best performance and power on their device. Therefore, you can get real-time RAW image processing to capture 4K AI Night Video with a live preview.
In terms of the features of this chip, it supports a 20-bit 120db dynamic range, better noise reduction, better color reproduction, HDR, improved detail, dynamic range, and more, thanks to their NPU. Their NPU also packs a lot of power and OPPO says that it can do 18 trillion operations per second (TOPS), and work efficiently due to the built-in dedicated memory.
The chip also will be using their own ISP, so you’ll get the full use of OPPO’s RGBW sensor to give the best photo and video quality possible. OPPO also claims that this chip will be more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 888 chip, as this chip powered the OPPO Find X3 Pro and used1,693mW of power to run two fps, while their MariSilicon X chip only uses 797mW, to run 40fps.
Although we did not get to see this chip in action, it is still intriguing to know its specifications and how we can expect the next generation of OPPO’s phones to perform. Meanwhile, the MariSilicon X chip is to be commercially available with the Find X Series in Q1 of 2022, so stay tuned for that.
