Let’s be honest, the modular LG G5 did not sell well this year, let alone the LG Friends, the modular accessories of the G5. Recent rumors suggest that LG will do away with the whole modular concept with the G6 in 2017, since modular products are still very much in their baby stages. New developments have since emerged, and according to South Korean news outlet ET News, LG will be waterproofing its next flagship.
Not too long ago, LG launched a more compact variant of the V20 in Japan, known as the LG V34. It is water resistant unlike the V20, but has a non-removable battery as a trade off for its water resistance. If the G6 were to be water resistant, it is highly likely that the 2017 LG flagship won’t have a removable battery as well. ET News further reported that the LG G6 will be using waterproof adhesive instead of the waterproof tape method that fellow manufacturer Samsung uses for the Galaxy S7 series, a method which is known to be more expensive, though the former method is said to be more in demand.
An LG representative has claimed that the demand of water resistant phones have been high, along with the rising culture of hot springs in Japan, possibly leading to LG’s rumored decision to make a change next year with the G6. Will you be able to trade off removable batteries for a water resistant device?
