LG flaunts new button-less fingerprint sensor module

Fingerprint sensors have now become a must-have in flagship smartphones, plus the fact that they are reaching the mandatory stage for mid-range devices especially in 2016. Some manufacturers like Apple and Samsung have fingerprint sensors embedded beneath their home button on the front of their smartphones, whereas OEM’s like LG and Huawei have opted for rear fingerprint sensors, which many have grown to like.

LG has just announced an innovative fingerprint sensor, which works without a button. The fingerprint sensor happens to be an under glass module, which is never seen before in smartphone history. LG claims that the fingerprint sensor would be able to identify your fingerprint just by placing your finger on the cover glass of the phone. With that, smartphones can be designed without the thought of a dedicated position for a cut-out or button for the fingerprint sensor.

The fingerprint sensor has a false positive rate of 0.002%, which is equivalent to 1 out of 50,000 times. Not only that, the module works under 0.3mm thick glass and LG claims it to be pretty durable as well. How durable is it then? As durable as a 130g steel ball dropped from 20cm above. Are you satisfied with how smartphone fingerprint sensors work these days? What do you think about this innovative fingerprint sensor module developed by LG?
