Leaked images of Google Pixel and Pixel XL give out a very HTC vibe

With Google announcing an October 4th event a couple of hours earlier today, newly leaked images of the company’s upcoming Pixel phones have appeared, and they’re ever more convincing than before. Both the Pixel and Pixel XL are confirmed to be unveiled at Google’s event next month, and these leaked images might be the biggest hints you’ll ever get of both handsets.

First off, we can see that both Pixel phones feature an aluminium body, with visible antenna bands at bottom of the rear panel. Do note that the phones are probably in silver instead of white, probably due to the hard light source based from the image. Due to the reflection of light, the top of the rear panel sports a different finish, which is likely to be of glass material, and this matches with previously leaked renders of both handsets. The fingerprint sensor remains at the rear panel as well, with Google opting for rear fingerprint sensors from the start since the Nexus 6.

Moving on to the front panels of both devices, the overall look reminds us very much of HTC handsets, especially the HTC One A9. Having said that, HTC is the company that has been rumored to be working with Google this time round, so its no surprise that we’re looking at a couple of HTC’s design cues here. While the bezels on the sides of the display appear to be slim, the bezel above the display and chin does happen to be rather large for some reason. Based on the images, the Pixel and Pixel XL are very likely to sport on screen buttons instead of capacitive ones, hence the big bottom chin seems rather unreasonable. Google’s new boot animation is seen on the Pixel’s screen on the right, while the bigger Pixel XL has an Android lock screen on display.

Previously rumored specs include a full HD 5.2-inch display for the Pixel and a Snapdragon 820 processor. The Pixel XL on the other hand, is rumored to sport a smaller screen than its predecessor (Nexus 6P) at 5.5-inches with QHD resolution. Underneath the hood, the phone is said to be powered by either an updated version of the Snapdragon 820 or a Snapdragon 821. Both handsets are tipped to feature the same camera pair of 12MP and 8MP rear and front cameras respectively.

Google’s October 4th event is just two weeks away, and the Pixel phones will be unveiled alongside Google’s Daydream VR headset, and possibly a new Chromecast with 4K support. What do you think of these leaked images?
