Latest Galaxy S8 update brings AR Emoji and Super Slow Motion mode

Samsung has just rolled out a software update that brings along the September 2018 security patch for the Galaxy S8 phones. The update also adds two features that were previously seen on the later Galaxy devices.

The updates come with new features to the camera app primarily, the AR Emoji feature which allows you create a 3D avatar of your self to which you can use to play around with or record your self in your AR Emoji state as a message for your friends. It might not be as accurate as Apple’s Animoji feature but it is fun to play around especially with the avatar creator. Other than that, the other feature that the company is adding to the camera app is the Super Slo-Mo mode that allows you to record a video in 960 frames per second in 720p. However, the S8, S8+ and Note8 will only be able to shoot in 480 frames per second at 720p for 0.2 or 0.4 seconds. Lastly, there are bug fixes and optimizations that should keep the performance of the phone consistent.

There are reports that the Exynos version of the phone in Europe has already received the update and a small number of US users. It might take a while before the update comes to Malaysia so don’t forget to check for updates regularly.
