The Kirin 970 processor from Huawei is rumored to have begun production

It looks like Huawei is almost done producing their new edition to the Kirin family processor with the Kirin 970. The Kirin 950 debuted in the Mate 8, the Kirin 960 in the Mate 9 and if they are following the trend, the Kirin 970 will debut in the Mate 10 which is going to launch soon.

A report from Taiwan stated that the commercial production of the new Kirin processor has already started and will be produced by TSMC, the same company that produced the Kirin 960. Rumors also indicate that it might keep its Cortex A73 CPU architecture but with a major focus on the GPU, it is said to feature 12 cores. Huawei plans to position this processor on the same boat as the Exynos 8895 and the Snapdragon 835 and is also built using a 10nm process, similar to Samsung and Qualcomm’s chips. There is also hints that the Kirin 970 will be the first processor that will feature some form of AI which Huawei is already using in their EMUI interface.

Based on the rumours, the Mate 10 will be announced sometime next month and a release in October and will feature a 6-inch Full Active Display.
