Jide launches Remix IO on Kickstarter

Jide, the company that was known for creating Remix OS, an Android based platform catered for desktop PC usage, has launched a new device with the said operating system. The company previously released the Remix Mini, said to be the world’s first Android PC. The Remix Mini, running Remix OS brought in mouse and keyboard support, plus other PC features such as a taskbar, and multi tasking via multi windows, just to name a few. Now Jide has kickstarted its new all-in-one device, the Remix IO on crowd funding site Kickstarter.

The Remix IO according to Jide is a 4K TV set up box, a gaming console and a PC in one. The added bonus is that Remix IO will be based on Android Nougat when it’s out. The device seems to edge out, if not on par with the rest of the competition so far with the likes of the Apple TV, NVIDIA Shield TV and the Roku Ultra. The Remix IO carries an octa core RK3368 Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. Its GPU on the other hand is a PowerVR SGX6110 chipset. Assisting the processing package are 2GB of onboard RAM plus 16GB of expandable storage.

As mentioned earlier, the Remix IO supports 4K video at 60 fps. Its ports include a HDMI port, VGA port, 4 USB 2.0 ports, an audio jack, an Ethernet port plus a micro SD slot for memory expansion. Unlike the NVIDIA Shield TV, which happens to be its closest competitor, the Remix IO runs both Android and Android TV platforms, hence making it an all-in-one Android device. The Remix IO’s Android Gaming Toolkit allows users to map buttons to their own preference, providing a comfortable Android gaming experience as well.

Most of all, the Remix IO only carries a price tag of $99 (RM413.84) for Early Bird pledgers on Kickstarter. The Remix IO is set to be delivered in March 2017. So far, the project has achieved more than 50 percent towards its $250,000 goal. With the success of the Remix Mini and Remix Tablet, this project shouldn’t fail to achieve its funding goal.
