iPhone 15 Pro expected to come with at least USB-C 3.2 transfer speeds

Well known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that while the next-gen iPhone is most certainly coming with a USB-C port, only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will receive a significant boost in wired transfer speeds, while the regular iPhone 15 could be stuck on USB 2.0 speeds, just like how Apple has done for the entry 10th Gen iPad this year.

Kuo expects that Apple will at least utilize USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 speeds, which will deliver 20Gbps or 40Gbps of transfer rate respectively, on the iPhone 15 Pro models, if it ever becomes true, this will most definitely excite many users and be the fastest wired transfer speeds on a smartphone.

Apple has long been reluctant to switch over to USB-C for iPhones as it has maintained its Lightning connector since the iPhone 5, no doubt it has been more superior over MicroUSB back then with the advantage of having a reversible connector, the USB-C connector now offers the same benefit with more features such as faster data transfer speeds, display and audio output, and potentially faster charging with the universal USB PD charging standards.

Apple executives weren’t too happy with the change but were forced to comply due to the EU’s decision, as any consumer devices sold in the nation will need to come with a standardized charger by the end of 2024.

While Kuo’s report is mostly accurate at times, there have been other rumors that Apple might pull off the ‘courage’ move by doing a portless iPhone as well, which will ultimately depend on MagSafe charging that first debuted on the iPhone 12, let’s hope by doing that, the next iPhone will also get faster charging speeds.
