iOS Beta 2 users reportedly locked out of Apple ID with two-factor authentication switched on

If you’ve yet to download the iOS 10 Beta from Apple, you might want to hold off on that for now as reports are coming in that iOS 10 Beta users who have two-factor authentication active on their accounts are being locked out of their Appld IDs.

First reported on a reddit thread, this issue seems to have two parts. The first part occurs appears to be a bug with app-specific passwords that can force a password reset, regardless of the iOS version that your device is currently running on.

While this first part may be relatively harmless to those running on stable builds of iOS, users who are participating in the iOS 10 Beta with two-factor authentication active on their accounts may run into problems with Apple’s iForgot password reset page. Upon entering the required details, the page would flash a message that says “server error” and “your request could not be completed at this time,” effectively looking users out of their Apple ID.

Apple engineers have since been notified of this bug, but as of the time of writing, very little can be done to those who have been affected by this bug. Therefore, if you’re looking to try out the iOS 10 Beta, you may want to disable your two-factor authentication for the time being. Alternatively, you can wait for the issue to be address before participating in the iOS 10 Beta.
