Intel has officially announced the new 8th Generation U and Y-series processor codenamed Whiskey Lake and Amber Lake respectively. The company has stated that these processors are specially made for thin and light laptops.
The processors that fall under the U-series are the i7-8565U which has a base clock speed of 1.8GHz and a boost clock speed of 4.6GHz, the i5-8265U has a base clock speed of 1.6Ghz and a boost clock of 3.9GHz, and the i3-8145U which is clocked at 2GHz with a boost clock of 3.9GHz. The most impressive improvement that Intel claimed these processors can offer is up to 16 hours of battery life and with power-optimized systems, they target to reach 19 hours of battery life.
The U-series processors could be equipped in the upcoming 13-inch MacBook Air, which Apple has confirmed that they are releasing a device that will follow the design factor of the MacBook Air.
