AMD has been pretty rough on Intel with its Ryzen processors, and team blue is ready to fight back its top spot in the desktop computing scene with its 10th-gen Intel Core desktop processors.
One thing good is that the model numbers aren’t as confusing as their laptop counterparts, as Intel has maintained the model numbers similar to their predecessors while having the first digit updated to 10.
As usual, we are seeing unlocked K processors on the Core i5 to Core i9 range, where they all receive a boost of 100MHz in their base clock speeds over their predecessors.
The Core i9-10900 and its K variant CPU are getting a new and exclusive feature called Velocity Boost, where it will unlock clock speeds of up to 5.3GHz when it performs under an undisclosed temperature threshold.
The Core i7-10700K should perform similarly to a Core i9-9900Ka as it features 8 cores and 16 threads with a similar boost clock speed.
Interestingly, Intel has finally included HyperThreading for Core i3 and Core i5 processors, while both receive a 200MHz boost in base clock speed over their predecessors. Last but not least, all K model CPUs have received an increased TDP to 125W, which should ultimatley deliver better overclocking performance.
We should be seeing more details about Intel’s 10th-gen desktop processors in CES 2020, as the company usually takes advantage of the event to make annoucements alongside with OEMs.
