Instead of scrolling, Instagram tries tapping to view posts

If you’re an Instagram user, you’d know that the app has undergone many changes throughout the years, such as the news feed algorithm, the story feature, the highlights feature and so on. Currently, Instagram is trying a new feature that requires users to tap instead of scroll when they’re viewing posts.

Apparently, Instagram is testing the tap feature in the Explore tab, and this was discovered by a Twitter user named Suprateek Bose. Instagram however has only tested it out on the Explore tab and has no intention on testing it on its main feed yet. It is Instagram’s attempt to improve users’ experience, as they believe that scrolling through your smartphones can be rather tiring after sometime.

This feature is similar to the Snapchat app, whereby users can tap to view the next post or the next user’s story. It seems that Instagram is following Snapchat’s footsteps in many ways, such as the story feature, the story filters, and now the tap to view next post feature. However, this feature is only tested with a small number of users, so most of us will still have the traditional scrolling feature.
