Instagram to display video view count

As you all know, it’s been a while since Facebook has added view counts onto videos that are being uploaded to the social media site. We have just received news that you will be able to view the same feature on its photo app counterpart, Instagram.

According to The Verge, Instagram will rollout this view count feature to its over 400 million userbase. This new feature will be positioned where the number of likes will normally appear. Tapping on the view count will then show the amount of likes the video has received. According to the company, priority will be given to views due to the 40 percent spike in the number of Instagram video viewers. Instagram has reportedly been seeing wildly creative and engaging first-person narratives come to life on the app.

While the view count won’t matter as much to ordinary people like us, Instagram claims that it will matter to people like the famous Zach King, to be able to understand the engagement depth of their videos to the social media audience. Like on Facebook, Instagram will register a view when a video has been viewed for at least 3 seconds. The company will be testing this feature with some users before rolling out to all users in the weeks to come. We shall then see whether Instagram will be adopting longer video durations soon, say 30 second videos. Till then, stay tuned!
