Instagram to challenge Yelp in future update

Instagram is no longer fit to be called a photo sharing app anymore like it was a couple of years back. The platform has grown to a nearly full blown social media app such as its owner Facebook. Recently, users were able to convert their accounts into business accounts, or set them up from scratch. Now Instagram aims to further enhance the experience by improving the interaction process between customers and businesses on Instagram.

Bloomberg reports that Instagram will soon introduce a new feature which will allow users to directly place appointments with businesses through the app. This means that business accounts on Instagram will soon have a Call to Action feature on top of the usual like and follow buttons. The new feature is said to challenge what the Yelp app is capable of right now. For instance, users will be able to make a reservation via a button from a restaurant’s Instagram business account.

James Quarles, Instagram’s head of business states that the new feature will be rolling out over the next couple of months, and will allow the app’s 1 million plus active advertisers to gauge the impact of their businesses on Instagram. The new feature will certainly change how businesses work in the app as there more than 8 million businesses which currently have accounts on Instagram and the fact that a whopping 80 percent of Instagram users follow a business.

Looks like it’s just another new yet nifty feature to be added to the already feature-filled Instagram app. Thoughts?
