Instagram plans to introduce Donation stickers to raise funds for non-profit organisations

Previously a Twitter user with the handle @wongmjane discovered that Instagram was testing out Direct on Web, a feature that allows Instagram users to direct message others on Instagram’s browser version. About 12 hours ago, Wong discovered a Donation sticker.

According to Wong, the Donation sticker allows Instagram users to raise funds for their favourite non-profits. Basically, when you use the sticker, you’ll be able to add a non-profit organisation to your Story so that others can make donations through your Story.

TechCrunch also reported that the testing of this feature is actually confirmed by the company itself and will probably be officially introduced into the app within this year. The company believes that this will create awareness for communities and causes and also bring users closer to each other.

However, there is a downside to this because just like the Facebook’s Donation feature, Instagram will also keep your payment details for future Instagram shopping. As the feature is still not launched yet, we are unsure if there’s a way to remove your credit card information or to disable the app from keeping it in the first place.

That being said, it does sound like an compassionate feature that can help many non-profit organisations to better the society. With social media being such a huge impact in society right now, features like this can really make a difference to others.
