Hugo Barra joins Facebook; becomes Vice President of VR

Just days after Hugo Barra announced that he will be leaving Xiaomi, it seems that the man has found a new place to start his “new adventure”: Facebook.

In a Facebook post made by Mark Zuckerberg, it appears that Hugo Barra will become the Vice President of VR for the company, a position that was previously held by former Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe. With this appointment, Barra would effectively be in charge of all of Facebook’s VR initiatives, including the Oculus team.

Barra will presumably take up his new position after the Chinese New Year passes as the man is still currently employed by Xiaomi. That being said, with Barra helming Facebook’s division, perhaps a local rollout of the Oculus Rift may be in the works? Only time will tell what Barra will bring to Facebook’s VR efforts.
