Huawei Watch 2 Pro with eSIM launched in China

Well this is a surprise. Who would have thought about Pro variants of smartwatches as well? That’s exactly what Huawei did with its smart wearable. Having just launched the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, chances are that all eyes will be on these two handsets, taking the attention away from Huawei’s then impending release of the Huawei Watch 2 Pro.

In terms of hardware, the Huawei Watch 2 Pro looks identical to the regular Huawei Watch 2. What’s different is that the Pro variant has an eSIM slot for up to 4G connections as a standalone device. WiFI connectivity is of course retained, with NFC as well, bringing support for Alipay, Huawei Pay and major Chinese mobile wallet payment systems.

The Huawei Watch 2 Pro however, comes without Google Play Services, although it runs on Android Wear 2.0. This makes way for China’s vast and unique app ecosystem for the wearable. The absence of Google Play Services could also mean that the watch will only be made available in China.

Other specs and features such as the 1.2-inch AMOLED circular display, Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor and IP68 water and dust resistance will likely be the same from the Huawei Watch 2 to the Huawei Watch 2 Pro.
