Huawei to launch a curved screen Mate 9 Pro too

Huawei has been performing pretty well this year. The company has launched a number of smartphones that has managed to impress both the media and consumers worldwide. As we dive into the middle of the fourth quarter, most of us are keen on the launch of Huawei’s year end flagship – the Mate 9. New reports tell us that the Chinese manufacturer will be launching a curved screen model of the Mate 9, called the Mate 9 Pro.

The code name of the Huawei Mate 9 Pro is dubbed as Long Island, following after the same New York themed Manhattan code name of the original Mate 9. As mentioned earlier, one of the key differences lies within its curved screen, taking cues from Samsung’s habit of a Galaxy S plus a curved screen Edge model. The Mate 9 Pro’s display is said to have its resolution upped as well, at QHD, while the normal Mate 9 will sport a 1080p screen. Both models however, do come in the same screen size of 5.9-inches. According to Venture Beat, the Mate 9 Pro is said to be paired with Google’s Daydream VR, hence the QHD display.

Internally, both Mate 9 variants will be featuring Huawei’s own Kirin 960 chipset, with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and storage configurations beginning at 64GB up to 256GB. Huawei will be continuing their efforts in collaboration with camera company Leica for the Mate 9’s dual rear camera. The dual rear camera setup is rumored to be similar to that of the Huawe P9, but with improved specs. Popular tipster Evan Blass has claimed that the cameras will feature 4x optical zoom.

Blass has further claimed that the spec-ed out Huawei Mate 9 Pro will come at an extremely steep price point of $1,300 (RM5,436.93). If the claim happens to be true, the Mate 9 Pro will definitely not sell well. Both phones are expected to be launched at Huawei’s November 3 launch event at Berlin. What do you think?
