HUAWEI P50 series to feature 200x binocular zoom

Leaks have surfaced online regarding the HUAWEI P50 series that’s launching in a few month’s time — the flagship phones are expected to feature some interesting upgrades, including 200x zoom.

HUAWEI P50’s screen to match the Mi 11’s

A Weibo blogger shared a screenshot that revealed a list of features/specs of the P50 series; according to this list, the P50 will come with a 90Hz screen whereas the P50 Pro and P50 Pro+ will feature a 120Hz panel. These phones will still get a punch-hole cutout in the centre, but it’s expected to be smaller than before. The displays are supposedly as good as or even better than the Mi 11, so we’re expecting these HUAWEI phones to push a QHD+ resolution and to use the latest Corning Gorilla Victus for screen protection.

HUAWEI brings 200x zoom to the P50 series

The P50 series also has similar camera specs to the Mate 40 series; HUAWEI continues to use Leica lenses, but the zoom capabilities have been expanded up to 200x zoom this time.

There’s a chance to experience 135W fast charging

Under the hood, the HUAWEI P50 models are either powered by a Kirin 9000 or Kirin 9000e chip. The fast charging is slightly better than the P40 series — the leak suggests that the phones will come with 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. HUAWEI may include 135W fast charging, but it is yet to be finalised.

Global versions may still run on Android

Despite HUAWEI’s announcement last year that HarmonyOS will be available for HUAWEI’s phones in 2021, it seems that the P50 series will still be running on EMUI 11 which is based on Android OS. GizChina reported the possibility of two versions — the China variants will run on HarmonyOS whereas the global variant will be available in both Android and HarmonyOS versions.

If HUAWEI follows last year’s timing, then we should be able to check out these phones sometime in late March or early April.
