Huawei overtakes Apple to be the second largest smartphone maker in the world

The days of dominion by Samsung and Apple have come to an end as third placed Huawei has finally beaten Apple, clinching second place in the global smartphone market. Industry analysis site has pointed out that Huawei has sold more smartphones than Apple has over the last three months.

Huawei has previously beaten Apple in smartphone sales back in December 2016, but the Chinese manufacturer has finally overtaken the Cupertino giant after outselling the latter in June, July and August. This achievement by Huawei is well in line with the company’s goal to be the world’s largest smartphone maker in about half a decade’s time.

In related news, while Apple’s iPhone 7 series are the best selling devices worldwide, claiming the top 2 spots, it isn’t a Samsung smartphone that sits in third place. Instead, the OPPO R11 happens to be a better seller than the South Korean flagship handset, claiming the number 3 spot. The fourth best selling smartphone is also by OPPO, the A57, also beating the Galaxy S8 which sits in fifth. It is rather odd that there are no Huawei devices in the top 10 list of best selling smartphones, an indication that it is more of an all rounder when it comes to smartphone sales in various ranges.

What do you think of Huawei’s great achievement in the smartphone market? Are you surprised that two OPPO smartphones beat Samsung’s Galaxy S8 in sales?
