Huawei may be creating a new Nexus this year

By all accounts, Huawei’s first crack at Google’s line of Nexus phones, the Nexus 6P, has been pretty good. That said, it seems that Huawei isn’t quite done with the Nexus just yet as the company revealed that they will be working on a new Nexus smartphone that will be released this year.

This particular information was first revealed at the South African launch of the P9 series of smartphones. Charlene Munilall, general manager for Huawei’s Consumer Business Group in Southh Africa, revealed to Gear Burn that the company will be “doing the Nexus again this year.” Rumours have been swirling around that HTC was tasked with creating both the high end ‘P’ series of Nexus, and the affordable ‘X’ series of phones, so this reveal comes as a big surprise.

Seeing as plans can change, it is possible that HTC has decided to focus on creating just one Nexus, giving Huawei the opportunity to create the other. Huawei China has yet to confirm nor deny that the company will be working on a 2016 Nexus, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Huawei is indeed tossing its hat into the Nexus ring for the second time.
