Huawei launches VR headset tailored for Mate 8 and P9

Huawei has joined the VR game, and it’s going head-on against Samsung with its VR headset, known as the Huawei VR. How is it a direct competition with Samsung’s Gear VR? For starters, it looks pretty much like the Gear VR, and it works pretty much like the headset as well. But on the other hand, Huawei technically isn’t competing with Samsung, since its headset will be targeting the Chinese market instead.

According to Huawei, the Huawei VR is the first VR headset that features a sound field of 360 degrees, which provides a very immersive experience in terms of the audio department. The headset will come with a library of 4,000 videos and 40 games for users to indulge in, and it doesn’t come at a price because it will be free. Knowing Chinese content, let’s just hope the videos and games won’t be dodgy or pirated, since Huawei didn’t reveal the source of the content.

The Chinese OEM is said to be selling the Huawei VR in versions tailored for its own Mate 8 and the latest dual-camera Huawei P9 series. Is Huawei late to the VR headset game? What do you think?
