Comparing with the results of Q3 2015, Apple lost some percentage from 13.0 to 11.7 percent while Huawei has risen from 7.7 to 8.7 percent. This result leaves third placed Huawei less than a mere three percent behind runner up Apple as the former company closes in on the latter by the end of 2016. Samsung’s market share for the Q3 2016 has also declined significantly from 23.6 percent last year to 19.2 percent. Part of it might be due to the Galaxy Note 7 tragedy, whereby the phablet’s production and sale have been stopped permanently.
Another Chinese manufacturer, OPPO, has also seen great improvement, nearly doubling the market share percentage within the period of one year from 3.4 percent to 6.7 percent, also narrowing the gap between the company and Huawei. Chinese company BBK Communication Equipment sits at fifth place with a market share of 5.3 percent, while the rest accounted for 48.6 percent.
While Huawei aims to take second place in 2018, it is possible that the company will be leapfrogging over Apple by the end of 2017. A month ago back in October, Huawei has surpassed the milestone of 100 million smartphone shipments. Let us know your thoughts on Huawei’s 2016 performance at the comments section below!
