Huawei claimed to top Apple in December 2016 smartphone sales

Huawei’s aggressive means of marketing has been working pretty well over the course of 2016. The Chinese manufacturer has taken third place in terms of global smartphone sales for quite some time now, trailing Apple and first placed Samsung. According to Huawei India’s Director for Product Centre Allen Wang, the company has overtaken Apple in smartphone sales last December.

The Economic Times reports that Wang claims Huawei to have topped Apple in smartphone sales last December, clinching second place right behind Samsung. Wang stated that Huawei’s recorded 13.2 percent in market share while Apple was roughly 12 percent. According to him, Huawei’s sub brand Honor is now the world number one online brand, which could be true given Honor’s performance in its Honor 9 pre-orders.

We can’t be certain whether Wang’s info of Huawei overtaking Apple in December 2016 is reliable. He also further claimed that Huawei has overtaken Samsung in certain areas of the market although the latter company still remains the overall leader in global smartphone sales.

Huawei plus its subsidiary Honor have been producing very respectable handsets lately, along with the Huawei Mate 9, P10 and its Nova lineup. Honor has been no slouch as well, releasing the Honor 6X, Honor 8 Pro and most notably the Honor 9 just 2 days ago.
