Huawei and Xiaomi to make curved screen handsets

Both LG and Samsung have launched their own version of curved screen smartphones respectively. LG got the ball rolling when it unveiled the LG G Flex back in November 2013. Samsung followed suit later with the Galaxy Note Edge. Both smartphones have their own successors, a proof that curved displays do appeal to consumers after all. Currently, we’re looking at a couple of new players into the curvy smartphone scene.

According to a report my Chinese site MyDrivers, both Huawei and Xiaomi are in the works of handsets that will be carrying the “Edge” branding like those of Samsung’s. Huawei, who has already impressed many with the launch of the Huawei Mate 8 and the dual-cam Huawei P9, is rumored to be constructing a Mate Edge smartphone. The Mate Edge is tipped to be sporting a Samsung curved OLED display. The handset is said to feature flagship standard specs and will carry a premium price tag of 4,000 CNY (RM2,479.53).

Xiaomi’s Edge device on the other hand is rumored to be dubbed the Mi Note Edge, or a simpler Mi Edge. The Chinese OEM is said to be borrowing LG’s OLED panels instead of Samsung’s. The Edge device by Xiaomi might sport a Snapdragon 820 processor alongside 4GB of RAM at a price of 3,000 CNY (RM1,859.65).

If the rumors happen to be true, we’ll most likely be expecting their appearance at IFA later this year. Either that, or we will have to wait till next year. What do you think?
